PLN Batam said 406,083 of 411,219 affected customers had power back as investigators continued to examine the cause.
- On Oct 12, a widespread power outage struck the Riau Islands, including Batam, Tanjungpinang, and Bintan, disrupting traffic, airport operations, and water supplies as PLN worked to identify the cause.
- The blackout disrupted operations at Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam and knocked out traffic lights, causing long jams during morning rush hour. Backup generators at water treatment plants supported only 30 percent of normal production capacity, The Batam Development Authority reported.
- By 4am on Oct 13, PLN Batam reported that 406,083 of the 411,219 affected customers had regained electricity, restoring 496.7 megawatts of the 501.8 MW load across 11 substations and 12 transmission units.
- Prioritizing vital installations, the utility stated, "Restoration is being carried out gradually, with special attention given to electricity supply for vital installations and public service facilities, such as airports, hospitals, ports and other strategic facilities."
- While nearly 99 per cent of power is restored across Batam and Bintan, the cause of the blackout remains under investigation. One distribution feeder is currently undergoing repairs to complete full system recovery.
