Chinese Tempera Artist Li Xiaogang Featured in Venice Biennale Exhibition
Li’s hand-layered tempera paintings contrast with the show’s focus on artificial intelligence, authorship and memory.
The Beijing-born artist Xiaogang is presenting work at the 61st Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy, where his traditional Chinese Painting is shown alongside an exploration of human creativity.
Xiaogang studied under Ritsuo Maeda in Japan before traveling to Italy to explore Renaissance Painting techniques, and he serves as vice-president of the Keran Academy of Painting.
His hand-layered Painting appears in the exhibition Metamorphosis: Beyond the Real, Searching for Victoria, When Humans and Think Together, the Story Begins at Foscari Esposizioni in Venice, contrasting with technology-focused themes.
Reflecting on technology in Art, Xiaogang said the emotional depth of handmade work remains irreplaceable, highlighting how slow Painting creation demonstrates enduring craftsmanship value.
"Art ultimately confronts the universal human condition," Xiaogang said, hoping global audiences experience how Painting reimagined through an Eastern lens expresses shared time, memory, and emotion.
