Citytv launches Canadian edition of Dateline, Diana Swain to host
Diana Swain hosts the two-hour special, which revisits the Elizabeth Bain disappearance and Robert Baltovich’s wrongful conviction through police records and new findings.
Citytv will launch Dateline Canada on Thursday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, marking the first international expansion of NBC's long-running newsmagazine franchise with award-winning journalist Diana Swain hosting the two-hour special.
The inaugural episode revisits the 1990 disappearance of University student Elizabeth Bain in Scarborough, Ontario, and examines the wrongful conviction of Robert Baltovich, who spent nine years in prison before acquittal in 2008.
Swain said the team examined decades of police files uncovering previously unreported information. The special features interviews with Baltovich, a retired Toronto Police officer who worked the case, and subject experts.
The series stems from a licensing deal with Rogers Studios, with longtime NBC correspondent Keith Morrison visiting Toronto to promote the franchise's first international expansion.
Dateline has resonated with audiences for 33 years, and this Canadian expansion marks a significant evolution, bringing the franchise's signature investigative journalism to Canadian stories for the first time.
