Comedian Russell Brand was a sexual predator, UK prosecutors say
Prosecutors say Brand used charm and manipulation to target women, and jurors heard the alleged abuse spanned a decade and several settings.
- On Wednesday, British comedian Russell Brand appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court as prosecutors accused him of being a "ruthless sexual predator" who sexually abused six women between 1999 and 2009.
- Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones alleged Brand was "not deterred" by protests, describing him as "demanding, entitled" and driven by an "indiscriminate and voracious" desire for sexual contact that showed no discrimination among victims.
- Brand, 51, faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault relating to six women; the former broadcaster denies all accusations and was once married to Katy Perry.
- Upon arriving at court, Brand told reporters, "Today I feel blessed," adding he remains "hopeful that this process will lead to good outcomes for everybody involved" as the trial is expected to last six weeks.
- Brand previously worked as a BBC radio presenter and television regular in the 2000s before transitioning to online broadcasting, where he has focused content on politics, religion, and free speech.
