Trump Demands The Arrest Of Reporters Over Photos Of Empty Rally Seats
For Donald Trump, crowd size has never been just a number. It is a statement, a proof of concept, and a political identity. So when photographs from his Saturday rally in Vandalia, Ohio showed empty upper deck sections, the response was never going to be a shrug. By Monday, Trump was on Truth Social demanding arrests. “The New York Times, and many other Artificial Media Outlets, should be arrested for their dishonesty and disservice to our Country,” he wrote. He insisted the venue was full, posting a video of people waiting in the parking lot outside. “The Ohio Arena was already full to the brim — And yet these people were still trying to get in,” he wrote, adding that “thousands of people had to be turned away.” — U.S President Donald Trump Via Truth Social: The Ohio Arena was already full to the brim — And yet these people were still trying to get in. The New York Times said, “There were empty seats” when, in fact, there were none, and thousands of people had to be turned away. The New York Times, and many other Artificial Media Outlets, should be arrested for their dishonesty and disservice to our Country. When Bernie Sanders has 500 to 1,000 people, they make it sound like it’s the biggest event that ever took place. When PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP has 50,000 people, they make it sound like nobody showed up! — Nancy Abdallah (@NanceAbdallah) October 5, 2026 New York Times correspondent Katie Rogers had reported that “several areas of an upper deck were empty” by the time Trump finished his 93-minute address at Butler High School in Vandalia, a venue with a rated capacity of 4,500. NBC News reported the same, noting the gaps in the upper bleachers had grown throughout the speech. Trump had an explanation ready. “What does happen at all of my SOLD OUT Rallies, is that the people in the upper sections tend to migrate down to the Main Floor — The ‘migration’ process always happens! The Times knows this, and so does everyone else. I never have empty seats — Never have, and never will!” The Fake News New York Times “reported” on my Great, PACKED Rally in Ohio that, “the place was not full. Some upper sections were almost completely empty.” In actuality, thousands of people were unable to get in. The Arena was totally MAXED OUT, including all upper sections. What does happen at all of my SOLD OUT Rallies, is that the people in the upper sections tend to migrate down to the Main Floor — The “migration” process always happens! The Times knows this, and so does everyone else. I never have empty seats — Never have, and never will! Because of their dishonesty, I have cinematographers shooting the various Arenas where I speak, in that some of the Fake News likes to dishonestly report lies and untruths. In actuality, my Events for very good Republican Politicians are probably more crowded than ever. There are no empty seats, there haven’t been for years, and there never will be. The Rallies are “HOTTER” than ever. They are all “happenings,” and they never happened before, and will never be duplicated again. The Networks refuse, however, under any circumstances, to show the Crowds, but you can hear the thunderous applause, and know that it represents thousands and thousands of people. Watch tonight, for example, in the Great State of Nebraska, where I’ll be heading soon. See you later! President DONALD J. TRUMP ( TS: Oct 5 2026, 1:58 PM ET ) — Commentary Donald J. Trump Truth Social Posts On X (@TrumpTruthOnX) October 5, 2026 What made the arrest demand particularly striking was something Trump had said from the stage in Vandalia on Saturday. “There are thousands of people outside [who] can’t get in. If you’d like to give up your seat, please, we can work it out, get out of here,” he told the crowd. Two days later he was calling for the arrest of reporters who documented people taking him up on that offer. Trump’s Monday posts also contained a factual error. The Times language he quoted, that “the place was not full” and “some upper sections were almost completely empty,” was pulled from the paper’s coverage of his Mobile, Alabama rally the night before, not the Ohio event he was responding to. The rally in Vandalia was part of a midterm push through states Trump won in 2024. He was there stumping for Senator Jon Husted, who faces a tough rematch against former Senator Sherrod Brown. Reuters reported this week that Trump is adding further stops in Alaska, Arizona, and Montana before November 3, all states that should not require this level of presidential attention three weeks out.
