Hasbro's Move to Boston Is Affecting Nearly 600 Positions
The company said the move will make Boston its primary headquarters for toys, board games and licensing, while 587 workers face layoffs if they do not relocate.
On October 8, Hasbro filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice with Rhode Island officials, confirming 587 Pawtucket-based employees must relocate to Boston by December 24, 2026, or face termination.
The toy giant announced this relocation last year to consolidate operations in Boston's Seaport District, positioning itself to "accelerate innovation, attract top talent, and drive long-term growth" through its Playing to Win strategy.
Hasbro spokesperson Abby Hodes stated the filing "does not represent a new announcement," confirming employees were offered continued roles starting January 4, 2027; those declining the transfer will lose their jobs on December 24, 2026.
Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien called the notice "disappointing," stating the company "continues to remain silent and unresponsive to outreach" regarding the transition and urged Hasbro to discuss the impact on employees.
Economics lecturer Liam Rice noted the departure could significantly impact local businesses and spending, while the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training plans to host a major job fair next month to assist affected workers.
