Kraken Parent Payward Signs Deal to Buy European Bank
The deal would add Saldo Bank’s lending, deposits and payment systems to Payward Banking, which has originated more than $2 billion in loans, the company said.
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Payward announced an agreement to acquire Lithuania-licensed Saldo Bank, integrating the lender's deposit and lending infrastructure into its financial services business.
Expanding into European markets, the acquisition provides Payward an EU-regulated banking license to offer interest-bearing deposits and credit directly to customers across multiple regions.
Saldo Bank President Jarkko said the deal connects the lender's operations with Payward's infrastructure, noting, "Combining the two businesses could allow more customers to access banking, payments and credit through a single provider."
Payward co-CEO Arjun Sethi described the purchase as a continuation of the firm's strategy, noting the company has already originated more than $2 billion in loans through existing operations.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, with Payward expecting the acquisition to close in 2027 but no specific product integration timeline yet announced.
US financial technology company Payward has acquired Finnish financial company Saldo Finance, which operates the specialized bank Saldo Bank in Lithuania, for an undisclosed amount.
