Man hospitalized after being hit by ICE vehicle in west Houston, officials say

Surveillance video and witness accounts are fueling questions as the man remains hospitalized in ICE custody with a suspected broken leg.

  • A vehicle operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents struck a 48-year-old man on Clay Road in Harris County, Texas, on Saturday morning around 7:20 a.m. Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the collision.
  • ICE agents were pursuing a wanted suspect who drove westbound in the eastbound lanes before fleeing on foot, according to Major Anthony McConnell of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The collision occurred as agents attempted to apprehend the passenger.
  • The passenger was hospitalized with a suspected broken leg and remains in ICE custody at the hospital. The driver, however, has not yet been apprehended, and authorities have not revealed what led to the collision.
  • Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones demanded that ICE "release all video evidence of this incident," citing demands for "full transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law." She also criticized the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies.
  • Investigators are attempting to obtain video footage from a nearby building's camera to establish what happened. The Harris County Sheriff's Office continues the investigation while the wanted suspect remains at large.
