Norway plans to spend $63.6 billion from wealth fund in 2027

The proposal would lift spending by 4.9 billion crowns, as the government seeks to cover public expenses and keep the deficit at 2.7% of fund value.

  • The government proposed withdrawing 608.4 billion Norwegian crowns from the Government Pension Fund Global for 2027 and must negotiate with four centrist and left-wing parties to pass the budget.
  • Under the proposal, spending from the fund would increase by 4.9 billion crowns, or $513 million, compared to 2026, measured in fixed 2027 prices.
  • Gross domestic product outside the oil industry is expected to grow 1.1% this year and 1.7% in 2027, while core inflation is projected to ease to 2.8% next year.
  • Planned spending for 2027 accounts for 2.7% of the fund's value, consistent with 2026, as the government claims the proposal will have a "neutral effect on the activity in the economy next year.
