Prestwick Aircraft Repair Facility to Benefit From £57m Investment
The project will add a 55,000-square-foot building and fund training for about 150 students and apprentices.
GE Aerospace announced a £57 million investment in aircraft maintenance facilities at Prestwick Airport, aiming to create 150 new jobs over the next five years and boost operational flow at the site.
The project secures £27 million from the Ayrshire Growth Deal and £6 million from Scottish Enterprise, positioning the investment as part of a broader strategy to transform regional economic activity and reinforce Scotland's aerospace leadership.
UK Government minister for Scotland Melanie Ward noted the government is investing £32 million through the Ayrshire Growth Deal, stating the funding will "help deliver a long-term future for Prestwick" and ensure the region remains a leading aerospace hub.
Beyond industrial expansion, GE Aerospace donated £75,000 to Ayrshire College for training equipment supporting around 150 students and apprentices, preparing the local workforce for careers in the wider aerospace industry.
Critics including the Campaign Against Arms Trade allege GE Aerospace's engines power military jets used by the Israeli Air Force in Gaza, raising ongoing scrutiny over the investment despite local economic benefits.
