Rep. Ilhan Omar’s staff got her birthdate changed officially after being elected to Congress: records
Emails show Omar’s office asked a state library to revise her birth year, a change now under renewed scrutiny amid a federal immigration probe.
On Monday, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at Representative Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C., home, seizing boxes of evidence as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
Her congressional staff requested in May 2019 that the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library change her birth year from 1981 to 1982, following a viral video questioning her age.
Investigators are examining whether Omar or her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, "intentionally misstated her birth date on immigration paperwork" to secure derivative citizenship in 2000, with the one-year difference determining minor status.
Omar rejected the allegations, accusing President Donald Trump of using law enforcement to intimidate political opponents, while House Democratic leadership condemned the raid as government "weaponization" less than 30 days before midterms.
While federal agents have subpoenaed relatives, the library correction does not establish illegality, as the original 1981 entry relied on unverified, widely available sources without supporting documentation.
