Mind Robotics Appoints Doug Field as President

Field will oversee robots designed for Rivian factories and other uses as Mind Robotics says it has raised over $1 billion.

  • On Tuesday, Mind Robotics announced the appointment of Doug Field as President to oversee product, engineering, and operations for the industrial robotics startup, which has raised over $1 billion.
  • Founded in 2025 by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, the startup is building "universally capable robots" for industrial manufacturing while Scaringe remains as chair. Field joins after leaving Ford in April following five years leading its EV division.
  • Field brings extensive experience industrializing hardware at scale, having overseen Tesla's Model 3 launch through "production hell" and led engineering at Apple before joining Ford as Chief EV, Digital and Design Officer.
  • Rivian serves as the startup's primary launch customer and shareholder, providing a live, high-volume manufacturing environment in Normal, Illinois for robots designed with "dexterity and physical reasoning" required for industrial work.
  • While competitors like Tesla and Hyundai pursue humanoid robot designs, Mind Robotics is backed by over $1 billion from investors including Accel and Andreessen Horowitz, focusing instead on purpose-built industrial automation.
