Father Set to Be Sentenced in New York for the Murder of Nine-Year-Old Montreal Girl
He faces a possible life sentence after jurors found he drowned his 9-year-old daughter and hid her body, prosecutors said.
On Wednesday, Luciano Frattolin, a Montreal resident, faces sentencing in Essex County Court for the second-degree murder of his nine-year-old daughter, Melina Frattolin.
During a United States trip in July 2025, Frattolin reported Melina missing and claimed two men kidnapped her; police arrested him shortly after when her body was found in a Ticonderoga, New York marsh.
A jury found Frattolin guilty in August after a three-week trial, where prosecutors used cellphone and vehicle location data to disprove his kidnapping claim and establish he drowned the girl.
District Attorney Michael Langey stated Frattolin faces a potential life sentence with eligibility for parole after a minimum of 15 or 25 years for second-degree murder and corpse concealment convictions.
Judge Tatiana Coffinger is also expected to rule today on a motion to set aside the guilty verdict before proceeding with sentencing, providing the defence a final legal avenue.
